Scene 1
Characters: Randy, Alex & Christina

O/C Open: Randy
(He moves up towards camera & talks into it.)
Hey there!

This is my house. Or actually...this is my kitchen.
That's my family. They live here! Right now we're trying to...

(both brothers are eyeing the computer..Randy's jumps back on it; but
Alex wants it.)

Alex (interrupts Randy)
...trying to finish up so someone else can get on the computer too!
C' mon man, I got things to do. What's all this "Randy's Budget" stuff?

Christina (walks in and looks over his shoulder)
Budget?? What are you doing with a "budget" You need money for a budget? You don't even have any money....

Alex (interrupts her)
..he's got $2 bucks, right here, to sign off this thing...so I can check
out my car sites.

Randy (ignoring Alex)
It's a school project I have on this website:
"Practical Money Skills" ..and it's supposed to help me with money and how to buy things. I want new wheels for my board.
You know those big fat ones.

Alex
Yeah, fat ...like your head. Why worry about a school project, just ask mom; you're the golden boy around here. She'll buy you anything.

Christina ( looking at Randy and computer)
I had that project too! We used this cool website that had a bunch
of jobs and money information on it. It helped me figure out
how much I needed for important things like my...

Alex (makes like he's using a calculator)
..like..lets see, if I use 6 gallons of hairspray; and four pounds of lipstick in three days, how many days do I have to work to...

Christina
You should try working. Then you wouldn't be hittin' me up for money.

Alex
I work. I get a paycheck. But they rip me off, man. Look here.
Said I'm making $8 bucks an hour and when I get this check, it's more like $5.50 an hour. They're stealing from me.
(pulls out his paycheck stub & shows it while he's complaining)

Christina (looking at pay stub)
That's not stealing, 'Mando. That's taxes!!

Alex
Same thing. I wanna' save up for my car, but I come up short.

Randy
Well, look here Mando...they got a part in here that shows you all about your paycheck and how to figure how much money you'll really bring home.

Oh...but I forgot! You can't read.
(Direct to Camera)
And he's never moving out of mom's, so he won't need to.

(looking back at his siblings again.)
I need those new tires by the time we go to that company
picnic thing with Mom. She said if I got half the money, she'd
kick in the rest.

Christina
Oh no! Not "picnic time" again. I hate that; it's sooooo boring.
I can't wait till I move out on my own, and I don't have to go
to those things.
There's nothing to do; I never know anyone; all everyone says is
"OmiGod!! You kids are so BIG NOW!"

Alex
They're talking about your butt, girl!

Christina
Well, they're sure not talking about your IQ, Alex!!

(Alex then looks over to Randy)
..give it up, punk. My mean machine is waiting for me
out there somewhere. I need the computer!

Christina (full of religious zeal about budgeting)
You just hang in there, Randy, because with that site
you can figure out things like
checking accounts at banks,
how to fill out a job application,
how organize your bills,
how to do a rental application and..

Randy (looks stunned..this is way more than he ever cares about knowing)

..uh.Christina....I'm just 14, I'm a kid. I just wanna' buy some wheels for my board...

Christina
..oh... okay...
..well, you can do that too. (she starts to walk out of kitchen.)

FADE out of scene somewhere in the middle of Christina's response
GO to "page" with teacher/student questions and tips.

End scene 1
